Lacquer painting with “mother of pearl” inlay has long been regarded as one of Vietnam’s great native art forms.  While similar techniques for lacquering wood are practiced throughout East and Southeast Asia, Vietnamese artists are well known for transforming this method of finishing furniture into a palette for dazzlingly expressive artwork.
