Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This web site contains information about the College and its academic Departments and Programs, as well as links to additional resources for students, faculty, staff, administrators, and friends and alumni of the College.
The College is the largest academic unit of the University, with 21 Departments, seven interdepartmental Programs, and over 350 faculty in the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics. Undergraduate students can choose from among 72 majors and concentrations; in addition, the College offers 24 Master's and six Ph.D. programs. Our faculty are engaged in a wide variety of scholarly and artistic activities, ranging from research programs in cellular and molecular biology to theatre productions and art exhibitions.
Faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences are committed to advancing knowledge and understanding in their disciplines through research and scholarship and to communicating that understanding to students in the classroom, laboratory, and studio, as well as through internships, independent study, and supervised research. The College houses the Freshman Seminar and Bachelor of Liberal Studies in the Humanities programs, and plays a central role in Communication Across the Curriculum, including both its speaking and writing components. The College also has several active collaborations with the new Joint School of Nanoscience and Nonoengineering. In all of these ways, the faculty help students develop into educated citizens, able to appreciate and contribute to the world in which they live and work.
