Research Skills Tutorial
Sharpen your research skills and improve your grades.
Foreign Language proficiency at the 204 level is required of all students in the College of Arts and Sciences. For most students, this is the most difficult degree requirement. It requires four consecutive courses to complete this requirement. Be careful not to repeat course numbers for which you already have credit.
If you have native proficiency in any language other than English, you can meet the Foreign Language Proficiency requirement without having to take language classes. The College defines the minimum level of proficiency as "the ability to read a newspaper or magazine without a dictionary and understand approximately 80% of what is read and approximately 60% of the spoken word." If you have this level of proficiency and wish to pursue this substitution, contact your advisor for details.
SPA 204 — Intermediate Spanish* II (has prerequisites)
* UNCG also offers courses in Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, and Russian. The second intermediate course (204) in any of these languages will meet the GFL requirement.
You may discover transfer courses that meet this requirement by comparing the list of UNCG courses above to the transfer equivalency list for your desired institution. To enroll in courses for transfer credit, contact the hosting institution and register as a visiting student. When you have completed a course, have an official transcript of your final grade sent to the UNCG Registrar's Office.
SPA 212 — Intermediate Spanish* II (has prerequisites)
* The North Carolina Community College System also offers courses in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, and Russian. The second intermediate course (212) in any of these languages will meet the GFL requirement.
