Online learning provides convenience of time and place for busy professionals and others who do not have access to a physical classroom. The purpose of this lesson is to introduce you to the UNC Greensboro distance education program. Though this orientation is primarily for students who are in online courses that may never meet face-to-face, it is also useful for students in courses that are web-enhanced. UNCG has adopted a software package called Blackboard that will deliver courses over the internet. This orientation will introduce you to the most commonly used features in Blackboard.
As a successful distance learner you have a variety of skills. You are open-minded and not threatened by sharing your life, work, and educational experiences through an electronic medium. You have excellent written communication skills. You think critically and balance your time well. You dedicate at least between 4 to 10 hours per week to each online course.
There are a number of self-assessments on the web that can help you determine your propensity for online learning. Try one of the assessments below before proceeding.
