Technical Help Documents

The ITCs have compiled a list of help documents that will hopefully be useful to faculty interested in developing e-learning courses. Click on the links below to view the help docs for each subject.

Blackboard
Blackboard is the primary course management system supported by the University. Blackboard allows you to create online content and add features such as discussions, groups, chat and announcements, all at the click of a few buttons.
Netscape Composer
This document teaches you how to access you personal directory (tilde space) and create web pages using Netscape Composer. Netscape Composer is the free web authoring tool that comes with the Netscape Communicator browser.
Graphics (PaintShop Pro)
Paint Shop Pro is an advanced graphics program that is available on the campus network for PC users. This program allows you to create new images and edit existing images quickly and relatively easily.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Macromedia Dreamweaver is one of the premiere web authoring tools on the market. Learn how to create basic web pages, as well as more advanced, interactive web pages. Dreamweaver is an officially supported product but it is not available on the campus network.
Basic Audio
This help doc will show you how to create basic, non-streaming wav files. These files can later be used to create streaming audio files (see streaming media section below).
PowerPoint
Learn how to effectively use PowerPoint on the web for online instruction.
Streaming Media
This help doc teaches you how to produce streaming audio and video for the Web.
Word HTML
This document teaches you how to save Word documents as relatively clean HTML files.

FTP
These documents will demonstrate to you how to use WS_FTP to upload documents from your local computer to network space.
Interactivity
This link will take you to a website where you can learn some simple ways to add interactivity to online courses. Tools covered include Hot Potatoes, Quandary, Audacity, PollMonkey and Nicenet.org.
