Tara T. Green lived the bulk of her childhood in a suburb of New Orleans and received her bachelor’sdegree from Dillard University. After graduating from Dillard, she attended Louisiana State University where she received her Master's and PhD in English, with an emphasis in African American literature. Before coming to UNCG, she taught at universities in Louisiana and Arizona.
Her research interests include African American autobiographies, twentieth century novels, gender studies, Black southern studies, literature of Africa and the U.S. Black diaspora. She has published numerous articles in these areas of research. Her books From the Plantation to the Prison: African American Confinement Literature (Mercer Press: 2008) and A Fatherless Child: Autobiographical Perspectives of African American Men (University of Missouri Press: 2009; winner of 2011 National Council for Black Studies for Outstanding Publication in Africana Studies), reflect her broad interests in African American literary studies.
She serves on the Program Committee for the International Civil Rights Center and Museum and as Vice-President of the Langston Hughes Society. Dr. Green enjoys mentoring students and working with community organizations.
