II. Use Your Voice

Email and Mail
- Refer to a bill number or issue in the subject line of your communication.
- Let them know you are a constituent and a UNCG supporter.
- Tell them why the issue is important to you.
- Stick to one issue per email or letter.
- Keep your communication short and concise.
- Keep a positive tone and thank the legislator for considering your position.
- Inform us about your communication.
- Legislators are often easier to reach in their district offices.
- Patience is important as legislators are often delayed by circumstances beyond their control.
- If you cannot meet with a legislator engage an aide or administrative support personnel. These individuals are knowledgeable, influential and will deliver your message to legislators.
- Let them know you are a constituent and a UNCG supporter.
- Tell them why the issue is important to you and the district.
- If your legislator asks a question you cannot answer, simply reply that you will secure the data and communicate via email or phone.
- Keep a positive tone.
- Finish the meeting by asking for the legislator’s support and expressing appreciation for his time and consideration. If you know the legislator does NOT support your position, simply thank him/her for listening to your point of view.
- Inform us about your conversation.
