The Department would like to congratulate the following recipients for 2007-2008:

  • Jodi-Bennett-Bradshaw
  • Ezra Alan Noble
  • Harriet Lauren Phillips
  • Patrick Wood
General Information

Funding requests will be reviewed by a three-member committee that, by the terms of endowment, must include the Chair of the Department of Anthropology who will appoint one full-time faculty member and a faculty member from outside of the department.

The amount of available funding will vary from year to year and will determine the number and amount of the awards. It is anticipated that for academic year 2006-2007 there will be seven awards, each with a maximum amount of 250.00. The review committee will meet four times during the year to review applications and make awards. All applications must be submitted on or before the following dates: September 1 (The deadline for September 2006 is September 15), November 1, February 1 and April 1.

All recipients of the award are asked to contact Dr. Kupferer through written communication to thank and inform her of the uses of her generous gift.

Faculty Guidelines:
  1. Kupferer-Outwin awards are available to all full-time faculty.
  2. Funds are explicitly reserved for professional development activities.
  3. See dates above for submission deadlines.
  4. Faculty should match these funds with other funding sources within and outside of UNCG.
  5. Requests for funding must include the purpose for which the money is sought, the projected budget, and the source of matching funds.
Student Guidelines
  1. Students must be registered anthropology majors or minors.
  2. See deadlines for application under General Guidelines above.
  3. Students may apply for funding to attend conferences. Students who are presenting a paper or a poster at a conference will receive first consideration.
  4. Students must collaborate with an anthropology faculty sponsor who will review their application before it is submitted to the committee.
  5. Please compose a brief (one page or less) description of the project for which you are seeking funding. Include your name and e-mail/phone contact information on the proposal. Also include the name of the faculty member with whom you are working on the project. Along with the brief project description, you must indicate the amount you are requesting and details of your budget (exactly where the funds will be applied). The faculty member with whom you are working must review the project proposal and sign their initials beside their name in the heading.
  6. If you are requesting funds to attend a meeting for which you have submitted an abstract for a paper or poster, please also include a copy of the abstract you submitted.
