The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) provides a variety of resources and assistance to eligible, low-income families in the hopes of providing the nutritional support needed for these families to live healthy lives.₁ The UNCG Anthropology Department and the UNCG Communication Studies Department have together created Recipe for Success to assist the USDA in meeting the nutritional needs of low-income families in Guilford County because:
• Health issues related to poor nutritional choices are more common in low-income homes than in homes with higher incomes. • Over 25 million people in the United States are considered to be in need of nutritional support programs like SNAP-Ed. ₁
Through programs like UNCG’s Recipe for Success, the USDA hopes to reach as many families as possible. |
