“The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP), an organization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was established in 1994 to improve the nutrition and well-being of Americans. Toward this goal, the Center focuses its efforts on two primary objectives:
The CNPP core initiatives include: Dietary Guidelines for Americans, USDA Food Guidance System (MyPlate, MyPyramid, Food Guide Pyramid), Healthy Eating Index, U.S. Food Plans, Nutrient Content of the U.S. Food Supply, and Expenditures on Children by Families.
MyPlate includes fun resources such as food group lists, ways to increase healthy foods in the diet, recommendations for physical activities, food Super Trackers, and body mass index and calorie calculators, among many others.
The United States Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), historically and commonly known as the Food Stamp Program, is a federal-assistance program that provides assistance to low- and no-income people and families living in the U.S.” The agency’s “mission is to increase food security and reduce hunger by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet and nutrition education in a way that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence. No American should have to go hungry.
