Our Mission Statement
The Anthropology Program
At the present time, the department offers both an undergraduate major and minor in anthropology. The major in anthropology provides for extensive study in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and physical anthropology. The sub-discipline of linguistics is not currently represented within the department although there is good integration of linguistic theory in many cultural classes. Students who develop a particular interest in one of the sub-disciplines may pursue a concentration in that area up to a maximum of 60 hours.
Both majors and minors have opportunities (and are encouraged) to develop mentoring relationships with members of the faculty on current research and fieldwork projects. We are also able to provide some financial support for students to present their research at national and regional professional conferences. In recent years students have traveled to Washington D.C., Tampa, and Santa Fe to present posters and papers on their research projects.
Details about major and minor requirements as well as faculty profiles and student resources can be found on our web site: www.uncg.edu/ant.
