Professor; Michael Ananian
Course: Painting II and III
Spring 2003

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Creating volume and creating composition will be the primary focus in this course.  All classroom work shall be from the model.  Outside assignments shall be given.  These assignments shall give the student the opportunity to practice and apply independently the concepts addressed in the classroom.  Also, these assignments should encourage the student to investigate a number of solutions for each problem.  As a result, Painting II and III is concerned with developing each student's potential for personal growth and self-expression while also honing and expanding each student's knowledge of painting.

All painting done in class will be from the model.  I will give outside assignments that will give the student the opportunity to hone concepts addressed in the classroom.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

ATTENDANCE
You may have 3 absences. A 4th absence will result with an automatic lowering of the student’s final grade by a full letter grade.  A 5th absence will result with an additional lowering of one’s final letter grade, a 6th and so on.  Four absences before the beginning of the midterm will result in automatic drop from this course.

TARDIES
Same policy as attendance-see above.

HOMEWORK
All homework assignments should be done on time and in your portfolio for end of the semester reviews.  If you are absent when an assignment is given, either contact me or a classmate to find out what is due and when.  You are responsible for all homework being turned in on time.  The second late homework will result in your final grade being lowered by a full letter grade-the same policy as the attendance policy applies here: see above.

PORTFOLIO
A portfolio containing all homework assignments and some class work shall be reviewed at the end of the semester for a final grade.  .

GRADING
Handling of materials and painting skills, that is, technical proficiency.  This means I will consider how well you use the painting materials to complete the objectives of this course.  I will grade your painting skills: whether or not and by how much your overall ability to paint has improved.

Ability to absorb and interpret concepts and issues taught in class: your ability to paint will be judged by your ability and progress to absorb and interpret the concepts taught in this course.
