Fall 2006

Welcome to Art 365:  While this class does not carry a marker, this class is technology intensive. We will be working on the computer one day a week. We will start to work on the Art Education Teaching Portfolio, the exit document that you will complete by April 15, and we will work on strengthening and extending our skills with the computer as an art tool, as a research tool, as a tool for teaching, and as a tool for documenting our accomplishments. The AETP will be created online using Taskstream. You will need to log in and sign up for your account and enroll in the Art Education Teaching Portfolio.

Please note that students are required to use a UNCG e-Spartan e-mail account to access course information in Blackboard (preferred e-mail addresses that are not a student's UNCG e-Spartan e-mail address cannot be used for this part of  the UNCG Web-assisted  course--you need to have a Novell login user name and password). The discussion forum for this course is now on Blackboard. If you have not activated your e-spartan e-mail, please do so.

Here are some things to do to get started:

1) Please review the class web site and print the information for your reference. You will need to check the site frequently during the semester for updates or changes.
2) Look around home and gather the art supplies that you may already have and then check these with the supply list for this course. Put them in a portable container to bring with you to classes on campus when hands-on activity days are announced.
3) Purchase your text books and any other supplies that you may need. You can and should start reading now!
4) Organize your notebook. When one has many things to do, organizing a container for the production helps to keep one on track. Organize your calendar, as well. Mark class meeting times, library research time, regular prep-work time, and target dates for assignments. If you don't have a portable weekly calendar, get one. This is an essential tool for every teacher!
5) Make note of any questions you have to bring with you to the first class meeting.

This is an exciting year ahead as you complete your professional preparations to become licensed as a K-12 Art Teacher. North Carolina needs good teachers and you will be ready to join the ranks of teachers after this school year. Be ready to work hard and to work every day!

Admonition: Remember the story of the great cross-country race between the tortoise and the hare; and who finished first. Was it the hare? "Slow and steady" will get you to the end of this class in good shape. December is closer than you think.
