Electronic Discussion Guidelines

Electronic Discussion Guidelines
Each week you are to respond "electronically," using either e-mail, listservs, or the class discussion forum. Your responses may be specific reactions to some aspect of the reading assignments, to a particular question or comment posted in the class discussion forum, or to a topic discussed on a professional  listserv. 

Credit: 25%
Due: Read and respond to at least two (2) times per week. For the discussion topics, you may choose to e-mail Dr. Rice directly or post a message to the class discussion forum. In other words, you can choose to share it with the class as a whole or with your instructor only.

Specifications:

1) Communicate via e-mail with the instructorand your classmates.
2) Participate in the class discussion forum. - a threaded discussion forum.  Threaded discussion forums allow students and instructors to share ideas using the Web's hypertext capabilities. Discussion forums link messages by subject. Thus, all  messages on one topic are grouped together, allowing users to follow connected threads of thought.  Please write at least 5 senentences on your topic post.

To create a thread you "Post a Message", including your name, e-mail address, subject  and message. When you click a submit button, the forum writes and links your  message. Others may read your message by clicking on it and, if desired, post a followup giving their own opinions.

3) For a "get acquainted" assignment,  compose a short paragraph about yourself (about 100 words), post it to our class discussion forum and read others posted there. Include the Web address (URL) for one (1) site you'd like to share with your classmates:  Learn how to copy/paste URLsFeel free to post a followup response to your classmates' messages. This "get acquainted" assignment counts as one electronic response for the first week.
4) Thereafter, two (2) times per week, respond "electronically"  with specific reactions to some aspect of the reading assignments, to a particular question or comment posted in the class discussion forum, or to a topic discussed on a professional  listserv. Again, you can choose to share it with the class as a whole or with your instructor only.
5) Subscribe to one (1) professional listserv, or Internet mailing list, related to art education.

Monitor the e-mail messages posted to the listserv, write a 100-word summary of the discussions and e-mail it to Dr. Rice two (2) times during semester. Include a brief list of the topics discussed, what you learned, and if and how the information may be used to improve art education.

  5. Art and intellectual property -- Whose Rights? Artistic License, Quotation, Mimicking, Study Acitivity -- How do these fit in a classroom?
  6. What uses do today's artists find for the Internet ?
  7. Who are some of the more important digital artists.  Where can their work been seen?
  8. Electronic galleries for students? (A place to visit and/or  a place to exhibit student work)
  9. Cyberculture for children and teens -- benefits and/or dangers.
  10. Aesthetics and criticism -- benefits/dangers in an art program
  11. Popular culture and visual culture--how does this figure in a fine art program?
  12. Technology requirements for high school graduation in North Carolina.
  13. "Catch Up" and "Keep Up"-- an ongoing challenge for today's artists, teachers, and adult work force.  How is this currently affecting you?
