Mariam Aziza Stephan is a painter. She teaches all levels of painting and drawing at both the Undergraduate and graduate level. Her prior teaching experience has been at both institutions where she earned degrees. She has participated in exhibitions in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Minneapolis.

Her painting’s central themes explore absence and loss through; landscape motifs, image being the sum of its parts, stacking of mark and form, and perspectival structures that flirt with the horizon. 

Stephan joined the faculty at UNCG in 2004.
