B.F.A., Design

The Design concentration begins with a series of foundation courses in drawing, visual language and principles, photography, digital imaging, and clay modeling. This foundation balances the progressive building of conceptual and technical skills with creative problem solving and prepares students for advanced courses in digital video, photography, web design, graphic design, ceramics, and variable topics.   Advanced Design students are encouraged to innovate new forms, expand media and disciplines, and work toward personal expression and understanding.  All studios are state of the art and fully equipped with the latest hardware, software, and peripherals.

To earn a BFA in Art with a studio concentration in four years you must average 15 credit hours per semester. In at least 3 of the eight semesters within the four year time period you must take an 18 credit hour course lead. Seniors must participate in an experience which will prepare them for the professional world of exhibiting. All studio art majors are required to enter the annual Senior Juried Exhibition. This exhibition is competitive and works are selected for a show that is installed at the Weatherspoon Art Museum. The prospectus forms are available in the Art Department Office by October and seniors are eligible to submit works 1 semester prior to their graduation date. The jurying takes place in February for an exhibition that is installed in March through April.
