Dr. C. Edward Arrington, Professor of Accounting, comes to UNCG from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in psychology from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1972.  He received his Master of Arts with a major in American Literature from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1974 and his Doctor of Business Administration with a major in accounting and a minor in cognitive psychology from The Florida State University in 1980.  He was a student at The School of Criticism and Theory, Dartmouth College, in 1987.

Dr. Arrington’s academic appointments include Professor and Chair of Accounting, University of Strathclyde, 1995-1998; Professor of Accounting, Louisiana State University, 1991-1995; Associate Professor of Accounting, The University of Iowa, 1985-1991; Associate Professor of Accounting, Florida State University, 1981-1985, and Assistant Professor of Accounting, Arizona State University, 1980-1981.

Dr. Arrington’s interests are in critical social theory and its relation to accounting and organizations as well as theories of language in the context of commerce and culture.  A former Independent Fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities, his expertise is evidenced by his publication success on a variety of interdisciplinary topics in the premier journals in the accounting discipline, as well as editorial positions with several journals.



William Collins

Financial Accounting
and Reporting

William A. Collins, Ph.D., CPA, Professor, received his doctorate degree from the University of Washington. He came to UNCG in 1989, having also served on accounting faculties at UNC Chapel Hill, The University of Oklahoma and the University of Florida. His research has been published in numerous journals, including The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accountancy and the Journal of Financial Statement Analysis.  He is co-researcher and co-author of research monographs published by both the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Institute of Internal Authors, and co-author of a text used in financial accounting courses at many universities and colleges. Professor Collins currently serves as Director, for the Master of Science in Accounting Degree program.

Bill Harden

Taxation, Financial and
Managerial Accounting

Bill Harden, CPA, ChFC, Assistant Professor, received his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1997.  His research and teaching interests are in the fields of taxation, financial and managerial accounting.  His research has appeared in the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Tax Notes, Journal of Financial Service, Strategic Finance, and the Tax Adviser.

Professor Harden is a member of the American Accounting Association, American Taxation Association, National Tax Association, American Institute of CPAs and the North Carolina Association of CPAs.  He currently serves as a member of the board of the Piedmont Chapter of the NCACPA.


Venkat Iyer

Venkat Iyer received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1994.  He came to UNCG in 1999, having also served on accounting faculties at Georgia College and State University and Wright State University.  Venkat is a chartered Accountant (India) and he has also passed the CPA exam.  He has over six years of experience in independent and internal audit areas.

Venkat's teaching interests are in the areas of Accounting Information Systems, Auditing, and International Accounting.  His research interests are in behavioral and empirical issues related to audit firms and audit market.  His research has appeared in Accounting, Organizations, and Society; Auditing - A Journal of Practice and Theory; Accounting Horizons; Journal of Education for Business; and Journal of Professional Services Marketing.  He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the Institute of Internal Auditors.


Cindi J. Khanlarian

Lecturer
 

Cindi J. Khanlarian, CPA, received her MSA degree from UNCG.  She had completed additional graduate work at Boston University.  She was Department Head at ECPI College of Technology where she taught computer operating systems and computerized accounting systems.  She also taught Managerial Accounting at High Point University before coming to UNCG.

Ms. Khanlarian was Chief Financial Officer and part owner of Pinetop Tennis and Swim Club in Greensboro for 17 years.  She has also worked in the tax department of a local CPA firm and acted as CFO of Fabrication Specialists, a manufacturing company.  Currently, Ms. Khanlarian and her husband own Piedmont Indoor Tennis Club.

She is a member of the American Accounting Association, NCACPA, and various other civic organizations.


Ann L. Watkins

Assistant Professor

Financial Accounting

Ann Watkins, received her Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1995. She has taught Financial Accounting, Auditing, Accounting Information Systems and International Accounting. Her research interest includes accounting and the public interest with particular emphasis on issues relating to health care financial management and audit quality. She has published in journals including the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Accounting and the Public Interest, Healthcare Financial Management, and Government Finance Review.


Dr. Watkins is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of CPAs, the Institute of Internal Auditors and the North Carolina Association of CPAs. She also holds a CPA license in Louisiana and a reciprocal certificate in North Carolina.
