Bryan School Presents Awards to Top Students


GREENSBOROEnd-of-year awards were presented to graduating students in the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The honors were presented during the school’s diploma ceremony during commencement May 16. 

Sara Nicole Landreth, an undergraduate student from Winston-Salem, received the 2008 Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award, which is the highest honor that can be given to a graduating senior or graduate student from the Bryan School.

The Joseph M. Bryan Achievement and Leadership Awards recognize students for their superior personal achievement, leadership and service to the school, university and community. Undergraduates must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 while graduate students must have a 3.4 average.

The winners were:

  • Heather Renee Anglin, Thomasville
  • Joshua Timothy Cochran, Gastonia
  • Ruth Katherine Hinshaw, Cusco, Peru
  • Sara Nicole Landreth, Winston-Salem
  • William Emmad Nazal, High Point

Students receiving the Dean’s Service Awards were recognized for distinguished individual contributions to the school, the university and the community. Undergraduates must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and graduate students must have a 3.0 average.

The recipients, all undergraduates, were:

  • Gurmeet Singh, Greensboro
  • Derek Chase Allman, Wilmington
  • Tiffany Faith Hallenbeck, Downingtown, Pa.
  • Watanya Elizabeth Resper, Winston-Salem
  • Elizabeth Anne Thornberry, Charlotte

The Bryan Outstanding Undergraduate and Graduate Student Awards recognize students who have enriched the Bryan School’s learning environment through their commitment to academic performance or professional service.

Undergraduate student winners were:

  • Andrea Marie Fiorillo, Currituck
  • Corey Allen Rzucidlo, Apex

Graduate student winners were:

  • Jennifer Barbara Heinbockel, Summerfield
  • Laura Elyse Heinbockel, Summerfield

The Bryan School Medal for Academic Excellence is awarded to graduating baccalaureate students with a grade point average of 3.90 or better in coursework completed within the Bryan School and who finish in the top five percent of Bryan School graduates in their class. Graduate students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 in their program of study.

Emily Trzyna of Raleigh, who graduated in December 2007, received Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key. The award goes to the graduating senior or seniors with the highest grade point average for four years of study in the Bryan School.
