BETA GAMMA SIGMA CHAPTER HONOREE PROFILE
SPRING 2009

Chancellor Linda BradyChancellor Linda P. Brady, who was the Chief Academic Officer and Senior Vice President at the University of Oregon, assumed the Chancellor’s position here at UNCG in August 2008.  Prior to this service, she held leadership and faculty positions at NC State University, Georgia Tech, West Point, and Emory University.  She earned her undergraduate degree at Douglass College, a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Rutgers University, and her Doctorate in Political Science from The Ohio State University.  Chancellor Brady is a noted scholar of American foreign policy, international negotiation, and arms control.  Her current research focuses on the role of negotiation in bringing wars to an end.  During both the Carter and Reagan administrations, she worked as an analyst with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Defense.  A few of her numerous awards include the Department of State’s Superior Honor Award and the Department of the Army’s Outstanding Civilian Service Award.

In her time as chancellor of UNCG, she has outlined clear goals and taken important steps toward positioning UNCG to redefine the public research university for the 21st century to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students and the communities it serves.

Membership

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate or master's program at a school accredited by AACSB-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. With the expansion of AACSB accreditation internationally, membership is no longer limited to those who have studied in the U.S. or Canada. Of the 1,400 U.S. institutions with degree programs in business, fewer than 600 are accredited by AACSB and have chapters of Beta Gamma Sigma. While almost 300,000 students receive baccalaureate or master's degrees in business each year, only about 16,000 students are elected to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the:

  • upper 10 percent of the junior class;
  • upper 10 percent of the senior class;
  • upper 20 percent of the graduating master's class.

Mission of the Society

The mission of the International Honor Society is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and personal and professional excellence in the practice of business.
