UNCG Has Top Chapter for Beta Gamma Sigma Business Society
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society has recognized the chapter at the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro as the top chapter for 2009.
The UNCG chapter earned the society’s Gold Award for its excellence in programming and operations and superior level of membership acceptance. The honor was presented April 26 during the annual meeting and conference of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International in Orlando, Fla. Accepting was Pamela Cash, the Bryan School’s assistant dean who serves as chapter treasurer.
The Gold Award is the highest recognition a collegiate chapter can earn through Beta Gamma Sigma. The honor will provide a $1,500 scholarship to one of the UNCG chapter’s outstanding student members and a traveling trophy, which will be on display this year in the Bryan School’s trophy case on the second floor.
“It is an extraordinary accomplishment to be recognized as the best chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma in the world,” said Bryan School Dean James K. Weeks. “Everyone connected with the Bryan School can be proud of this recognition, as it is a testament to the high quality of our academic programs, students and faculty.”
One of the activities that brought the Gold Award to the Bryan School was a program called Ethics in Action. Student vice presidents Gurmeet Singh and Derek Allman, both members of the Class of 2008, organized a program that highlighted ethical practices through guest lectures and publicity campaigns emphasizing the Bryan School’s adopted values of responsibility, honesty, respect, fairness and trust. In earlier recognition, UNCG has been selected as a premier Beta Gamma Sigma chapter annually since 1996.
Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International. Each year, collegiate chapters extend invitations to the top 10 percent of business juniors and seniors and the highest 20 percent of business graduate students
Founded in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International, with 481 chapters at member institutions. The Bryan School is among the top 10 percent of schools in the US that have earned accreditation for its undergraduate and graduate programs in both business and accounting.
