UNCG's Bryan School of Business and Economics is offering prospective students an opportunity to try graduate level courses before committing to a full degree program.
This fall, students may enroll in one of the Bryan Prelude programs and take up to two courses as non-degree seeking students. Bryan Prelude students may enroll in classes in three programs: the evening MBA Prelude program, the Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MSITM) Prelude program or the Master of Science in Accounting Prelude program. Course credit earned while enrolled in the Bryan Prelude programs may be applied to degree programs -- up to six hours for a master's degree and up to three hours for a post baccalaureate certificate.
Bryan Prelude programs offer flexibility to prospective students in a variety of ways, said Dr. McRae C. Banks, incoming dean of the Bryan School.
"The benefit is especially strong for adult learners," he said. "Many of them are not sure they are ready to do a degree program. They are trying to balance so many commitments, such as family and work, and they are not sure they have time to add graduate work on top of that. The Bryan Prelude programs offer them a chance to see if they can make it work."
The program would also be a good fit for students who earned their undergraduate degrees many years ago, he added, giving those students a way to ease back into the rigors of academic work. And for students who missed the regular application deadline, the Bryan Prelude offers a way to start graduate-level work right away and complete the regular application process later.
Interested students should submit an abbreviated graduate application either online or by mail, and have a complete and official undergraduate transcript, including courses and grades, sent to the Bryan School that verifies that an undergraduate degree was earned. A personal statement of interest explaining a student's attraction to the program and how the information from coursework would be used along with a resume is required for the Bryan MBA Prelude and the Bryan MSITM Prelude.
Applicants need a minimum GPA of 3.0 from their undergraduate studies. The GMAT and letters of recommendation are not required for Bryan Prelude applicants. Bryan Prelude students who decide to apply for admission into a degree program can take a GMAT prep course for free.
Students interested in the MSITM may only take one course per term. Students interested in the other degrees may take both of their Prelude classes in a single semester.
Earning satisfactory grades in the Prelude program does not guarantee admission into a graduate program at UNCG.
