Job Search Prep

The best job search includes face-to-face networking and direct contact in addition to online applications. There are some helpful online resources available here but don’t forget to use all your resources. Networking via social sites like LinkedIn and in person should be a good portion of your job search. The resources here can be used in conjunction. Once you find and apply to a position, don’t forget to follow up! Persistence, when done professionally and respectfully shows your high interest and willingness to do the job. And don’t forget career counselors are here to help you. Contact Linda Pollock, Bryan Career Counselor at 256-0223 to schedule an appointment.

There are many online job databases; here are some of the most useful:

SpartanCareers – Positions posted just for UNCG students and alumni. You can set up a job search agent and add your resume to the database for employers to search.

CareerShift – Free to UNCG students, this comprehensive database allows you to search for not only positions, but also contacts at the organization where you wish to work.

Triad Careers.com - A resource which posts local jobs. Settings will also allow you to search regionally and nationally.

IMPORTANT: To search jobs at Graduatejobs.com, click on the purple "Enter Here" button on the left. Choose a job category and enter password when prompted.

The NC Employers list to the left is a representative sample of some of the organizations in the area broken down by region.

There are many other Job and Career Field Links on the web that can provide valuable leads for your job & internship search. A list of some of the top resources is provided.

Professional Organizations are an excellent source of job leads. Be sure to involve yourself in your local chapter of the professional organizations of your choice. Most have their own web sites listing job opportunities at companies represented in the group, and many have announcements about new opportunities during the meeting. Don’t forget the national parent of the local chapter – they often have extensive websites with national opportunities!

On-Campus Opportunities are specific times when employers come to UNCG’s campus to do practice interviews, career fairs, information tables, interviewing and recruiting.
