James K. Weeks, Ph.D.
Dean, UNCG Bryan Business School
Serving as the dean of the UNCG Bryan School of Business and Economics for more than 18 years, Dean Jim Weeks is one of the longest serving business school deans in the southeast. Under his leadership, the Bryan School, accredited by AACSB International, is among the top 10% of business schools in the nation to have earned accreditation in business and accounting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He now serves on the AACSB Maintenance of Accreditation Committee, which oversees applications for maintenance of accreditation for business programs. He currently serves on the three person Executive Committee of the University's BELL Program—Building Entrepreneurial Learning for Life. During his tenure, Dean Weeks has led the Bryan School in the expansion of international programs and activities, expanded degree offerings, established the Center for Business and Economics Research, the McDowell Research Center for Global Information Technology Management, and increased endowment funding to approximately twenty million dollars.
Jim is also a professor of operations management. He has published numerous articles and a book and has given many presentations on operations, materials, and manufacturing management. He has been recognized nationally for his research and has received national and regional recognition from professional associations for his service to the profession. Jim earned his BA from Methodist College, his MBA from East Carolina University, and his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.
He has consulted with major corporations and has conducted numerous seminars and management development programs throughout the nation for a variety of universities and business organizations. His management development seminars and consulting have been primarily in the areas of manufacturing strategy, world-class competitiveness, materials management, and strategic planning. He also has served as an expert witness and consultant for several legal firms.
Jim serves on the boards of several organizations including the Piedmont Triad Entrepreneurial Network, the Moses Cone Health System, the BGS International Honor Society for AACSB accredited schools of business and its Executive Committee, Samet Construction, Brady Services, Biscuitville, and International Marketing Solutions. In addition, he has been an active member of several local educational, civic, and religious organizations.
