Financial Assistance
Ph.D. Students
The department offeres competitive awards, fellowship, and graduate assistantship, and future waivers (fees not included) to its best applicants. Students who want to be considered for internal fellowships should apply by February 15.
M.A. Students
The Department of Economics offers 10 or more financial packages that begin at $5,000 per year and include graduate assistantships that assign students to 18 hours of work a week to assist professors in Economics and other departments in the Bryan School with their teaching and research. Students may also compete for special graduate assistantships in research centers on campus that pay $7000-$8000 per year and require 20 hours of work per week. Interested students should send a resume and indicate areas of research interest. These research opportunities include but are not limited to the following:
Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER)
Assistantships are awarded competitively and applications received prior to April 1 are reviewed first.
A limited number of out-of-state waivers for the first year of study are awarded competitively to students as part of their financial package. Out-of-state waivers reduce the tuition and fees of the out-of-state student to the tuition and fees charged to in-state students.
Foreign students must provide documentation verifying sufficient funds in an American bank account (currently $28,400) to provide for their support in order to obtain an appropriate visa. Foreign students are eligible for a graduate assistantship and out-of-state tuition waivers that reduces the $28,400 amount, but the Department is unable to provide the full $2 to obtain a student visa. Bryan Fellowships
A limited number of Bryan Fellowships are awarded competitively to entering students in all four Bryan School graduate programs. The Fellowship award includes a $2,000 stipend in addition to the graduate assistantship. For out-of-state students, the out-of-state portion of the tuition is normally waived. Applicants should have a strong GPA (over 3.5) and a GRE score above 1200. The application deadline for Bryan Fellowships is February 15.
