Bryan School Students Receive $11,500 in Scholarships


Study Abroad StudentsGREENSBORO, NC – Three seniors in the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships to study abroad in the spring of 2009. They were among approximately 600 award recipients chosen from 1,465 applications.

Adam Landreth, from Winston-Salem, was awarded $3,500 to study at the University of Botswana in Gaborone. Landreth majored in international business, economics and political science at UNCG, and studied abroad in Hong Kong during in the fall of 2006. Landreth was also a member of the Bryan School Undergraduate Programs Committee, the Economics Club and the Provost’s Student Advisory Committee.

Lee “Wes” Salisbury, a non-traditional student from Winston-Salem, was awarded $4,500 to study at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in China. Salisbury majored in finance with minors in art and economics. He was also the president of UNCG’s Future Financial Professionals student organization.

Xai Lor, from Valdese, was awarded $3,500 to study at Kyoto Sangyo University in Kyoto, Japan. A first generation college student, Lor holds an Associate’s in Applied Science in Business Administration from Western Piedmont Community College. She majored in international business at UNCG. One of nine children, she worked part time while completing her degree.

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers need-based grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students who study abroad. The congressionally funded program, sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education, is open to undergraduate students who receive federal Pell Grant funding.
