McDowell Center Sponsors Global IT Conference

Dr. Prashant PalviaGREENSBORO – The McDowell Research Center for Global IT Management at the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is co-sponsoring  the ninth annual Global Information Technology Management Association (GITMA) conference.

The conference, which brings together information technology professionals, academics and students from around the world, will take place June 22-24 in Atlanta.

The conference features IT topics such as the nature of global IT outsourcing and offshoring of systems and resources as well as cultural differences and global economic commerce. The conference alternates between the United States and international locations.

“The importance of globalization in business is greater than ever,” said Dr. Prashant Palvia, Joe Rosenthal Excellence Professor and director of the McDowell Center. “Information technology continues to be a crucial enabler in bringing people and businesses together from all over the world. The GITMA conference stands out in its role for facilitating information exchange among IT and business professionals.” Palvia will be among the presenters at the conference.

Tim Rice, president and CEO of the Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, North Carolina, and a member of the McDowell Center advisory board, will deliver the  keynote address “IT in Healthcare: The Good, The Bad, and The Potential.”

Microsoft vice president Robert McDowell will discuss trends in IT industry and research.

Dedicated in 2007, the McDowell Research Center for Global IT Management at the Bryan School of Business and Economics is the nation’s first center to investigate the international applications of information technology. The Center is named for Microsoft Vice President Robert McDowell and his wife Lissa Shelley McDowell, a 1968 UNCG graduate. In 2006 the McDowells gave UNCG a $3.85 million gift to support global information technology, the Weatherspoon Art Museum and Communication Across the Curriculum, UNCG's signature program of cross-departmental academic excellence, student development and excellence in teaching.
