Dr. Moses Acquaah, Bryan MBA professor and expert in strategic management and international business, has been awarded a research grant from Emerald Group Publishing Limited, the world’s leading publisher of management research.
Emerald Group Publishing, in association with International Academy of African Business and Development, asked applicants to write proposals that support the dissemination of knowledge for the social good of Africa. Dr. Acquaah and his colleague, Mr. Eddy K. Tukamushaba, from Makerere University Business School in Kampala, Uganda, were selected as the winners from a competitive pool of high-quality submissions.
Dr. Acquaah, who studies strategic management issues in emerging economies, has published numerous papers relating to Africa. His newest research project, entitled The Human Factor and Public Sector Effectiveness in Africa, examines how the human factor promotes public sector effectiveness, and the role of organizational justice perceptions in influencing that relationship in Ghana and Uganda.
“I am delighted and honored that our proposal was selected as the winner of the 2008 Emerald/ALCS Public Sector Management in Africa Research Fund Award. The collaborative and cross-country nature of our research demonstrates the importance of investigating public sector management issues in Africa in a holistic manner. This award has not only encouraged me but also reinforced my belief that conducting high quality research that is focused on Africa is highly recognized by internationally acclaimed and prestigious publishers such as Emerald Group Publishing Limited.”
As part of his work on the Emerald grant, Dr. Acquaah spent the second half of May in Uganda conducting research for the paper and is returning to Africa in June to visit Ghana. Shortly after returning from this second trip to Africa, he will be traveling to Brazil to attend a conference in Rio de Janeiro and to make a short visit to Curitiba where he will meet with officials from UniFAE to work on preparations for the Bryan MBA trip that he will be leading to Brazil in October.
