What will the evening Bryan MBA do for me?

As a Bryan MBA graduate, you'll find yourself better equipped to meet the increasing demands on managers in a globally competitive environment. You will develop relevant conceptual frameworks and the complementary technical skills necessary for effective decision-making. Ultimately, you will be a better thinker, team member, problem solver, and communicator.

How can I customize the program to fit my needs and interests?

The primary advantage of the evening program is its flexibility. Nine credits of your degree come in the form of electives, so you can tailor your study to match your individual goals. Courses meet only at night, so you will never have to worry about class schedules interfering with your day job. The evening Bryan MBA also keeps your weekends free--so you can devote time to study.

Evening program students are free to schedule courses at their own pace. Typical course loads are 6 credit hours per semester, or 2 evenings per week. If you anticipate a busy quarter at work, you may want to temporarily reduce your load. If you are feeling up to the challenge, you can add a class or two. It is your choice.

I want to go full-time. Should I choose the day program?

Not necessarily. The evening program is designed for working adults and seasoned professionals who have relevant life experience outside of their undergraduate degree. Students can enroll part-time or full-time as their schedules allow.

Are all courses offered at night?

Yes. All evening Bryan MBA courses are scheduled to accommodate students working full-time, as well as to enable full-time students to pursue other opportunities, such as graduate assistantships, internships or part-time employment. Evening classes meet once per week from 6:30 p.m. until 9:20 p.m. Summer session courses are offered in the online format.

Can I keep working while I earn my degree?

Definitely. In fact, most students do.

Will I be learning on my own, or as a part of a team?

You will soon discover that one of the major benefits of the Bryan MBA program is your interaction with your fellow students. You will be in class and work in teams with bright and enthusiastic colleagues who bring a wealth of personal experience to the subject matter of each class. Everyone in the program brings something that enriches our collective educational experience. You will find less teamwork in the basic level courses than in foundation and strategic level courses. Examples of group work include case analyses, presentations, management teams, as well as research and study groups.

How are classes structured?

The evening Bryan MBA program immerses you in a variety of learning formats: experiential learning using case studies; projects with area firms; interaction with executives from a variety of industries; lecture and discussion; as well as group projects and presentations. The curriculum provides you with a solid foundation in general management practice, and gives you the opportunity to develop depth or breadth in subject areas that support your career goals.

Are most other students professionals, like me?

Because the majority of your student colleagues are employed full-time, discussion before, during, and after class is likely to revolve around what's going on in a particular business right now. In addition to the intellectual stimulation this affords, many students find this to be an exceptionally rewarding networking opportunity.

What sort of academic background do I need?

The Bryan MBA program is designed for qualified students from any academic background. Prospective students must hold a four-year degree from an accredited college or university. Although the degree itself can be in any discipline, students must also have completed a college-level algebra course and possess basic computer literacy skills.

What are the admissions requirements?

Complete admissions requirements are detailed in the online enrollment application, available here. To enroll, you'll need:

• Completed admission application
• $60 non-refundable application fee
• Proof of GMAT score or GRE score (waived for members of Beta Gamma Sigma)
• Official academic transcripts
• Resume (3 years of professional experience for the evening program)
• 1000 word personal essay describing your reason for pursuing a Bryan MBA
• Three letters of recommendation

What do I need to cover in the personal essay?

We ask you to submit a one to two page personal essay telling us a little about yourself. Questions you may wish to answer, include: What special characteristics and experiences might you bring to the classroom and your fellow classmates? Why do you want to pursue the Bryan MBA? Why do you think it would be a good fit for you? What do you have to offer the professors who teach in the Bryan MBA program and what do you have to offer the other students who will go through the Bryan MBA program with you? What makes you the person you are? What life experience or experiences have been the most important in your personal development?

Finally, is there anything special we should know about your application credentials -for example, is your final GPA a little lower than it could be due to some personal event that occurred while you were in your undergraduate program? Tell us why, or let us know about other special considerations you would like us to know about you.

What is provisional admission?

A provisionally admitted student takes the same courses, does the same work, and has the same opportunities and responsibilities as a regularly admitted MBA student. The provisional admission does require that a student make a clear demonstration of ability and commitment to success in his or her first semester of study. While almost all provisionally admitted students meet with success; a weak performance in the first semester will result in a provisionally admitted student not being allowed to continue in the program.

What is the TOEFL and who should take it?

TOEFL stands for the Test of English as a Foreign Language. The test is required for all international students to prove their proficiency in English. If a student received their undergraduate degree from an accredited American university, they are waived from taking the TOEFL.

The Admissions Committee looks for a minimum TOEFL of 79-80 (Internet-based), 213 (computer-based) or 550 (paper-based) but prefers a higher TOEFL score in general. IELTS (6.5 minimum) is also accepted. For students who do not achieve a strong score on one of these tests, the Committee might recommend admission to the MBA Program but with the requirement that a student complete the INTERLINK English as a Second Language Program that is available here at UNCG. When can I start the evening MBA program?

Pending successful admission, you can start in August or January. UNCG has rolling registration, so once you have applied and been successfully admitted, you can meet with your MBA advisor and select your courses. If you are starting in August, you can be advised and register as early as May. For January starts, you can register in November.

Year-round enrollment for full- and part-time students is possible: MBA classes are offered during the fall and spring semesters as well as during two six-week summer sessions.

When do classes start?

The evening program admits students to start in fall (approximately the 3rd week of August) or spring semesters (approximately the 2nd week of January). View academic calendars.

What about parking?

There are a variety of parking options available to students. You can find information on the permit right for you by going to parking.uncg.edu. Most evening MBA students take advantage of one of the two parking decks (Walker & Oakland) adjacent to the Bryan Building.

How long will it take to complete the evening program?

The evening program requires a total of 42 credit hours, 9 of which are taken at the elective level, and there is no prerequisite coursework. The program is self-paced to allow you the flexibility to take as many or as few courses as you wish per semester, but most part-time students complete the program in two to three years. The university requires all coursework to be completed within five years of enrollment.

How much is tuition?

Tuition varies based on how many courses you take per semester and whether you are considered in-state or out-of-state for tuition purposes.

Approximate tuition for NC residents taking six credits per semester is $3,452, or based on current tuition and fees, $24,161 over the life of the degree. Tuition for an out-of-state student taking six credits per semester is $8,495, or $59,465 over the life of the degree. Yes. The Office of Bryan Graduate Career Services offers the full range of career services to our students including career development workshops, career counseling, internship opportunities, and opportunities to meet with recruiters.

Is the program accredited?

Yes. The Bryan School of Business and Economics is accredited at both the graduate and undergraduate level by the AACSB International -The American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.
