Following up on last year’s successful Aging Summit, UNCG hosted its second annual Aging
is Good Business Summit on April 11th. This year’s Summit, which focused on the residential
choices that boomers make, attracted academics and professionals in senior housing, interior design
and architecture, and a variety of other older age planners.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Lois Vitt, Director of the Institute for Socio-Financial Studies. Dr.
Vitt, who holds an MBA and a PhD in sociology, is the author of 10 Secrets to Successful Home
Buying and Selling and is the Editor-and-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Retirement and
Finance.
The one-day, on-campus event also featured presentations on boomer marketing, a public discussion
on the business of residential development for senior housing, and a presentation by Tom Rose,
Director of Duke’s SMART HOUSE, on the implementation of new technology into residential
life. The Summit concluded with the award ceremony for the first biennial UNCG Senior Housing
Design Student Competition.
Co-sponsored by Gerontology Program and the Bryan School of Business and Economics, UNCG is one
of the only universities in the United States to offer the MBA/MS in Gerontology dual degree.
