With an initial gift of $25,000 to The UNCG Excellence Foundation, Hyman Balbirer has established the Balbirer Family Scholarship Fund. Mr. Balbirer’s intention in making this gift is to honor his parents, Abraham Balbirer and Gertrude Balbirer. This generous gift will be used to establish an annual $1,000 scholarship for the Bryan MBA program. At the start of each academic year, one entering, full-time MBA student will be awarded this merit-based scholarship which will be renewable for the second year based on satisfactory academic performance. While Hyman Balbirer has always lived in New York City, there are Greensboro connections. For the better part of three decades, he was a textile salesman for Cone Mills’ John Wolfe Division. He has received numerous awards from Cone Mills for both the length of his service and the integrity with which he conducted business. He is a great student of philosophy, finance, history and the arts. He has selected The Bryan School of Business and Economics because he is so proud of his nephew, Sheldon D. Balbirer and his accomplishments in teaching and mentoring students. The first Balbirer Family Scholarship recipient will be selected for the fall 2009 semester. No application is required for this scholarship and all admitted students to the day program will be automatically considered. April 2009 |
