UNCG Business Summit on Tuesday, October 23

Business leaders from across the Triad will convene 7:30 am – 1:30 pm, Tuesday, October 23 in Elliott University Center for the second annual UNCG Business Summit.

David J. Bronczek, president and CEO of FedEx Express, will deliver the summit’s keynote address, “Business and Higher Education: A FedEx Perspective.” FedEx Express is the unit that will operate the FedEx hub at Piedmont Triad International Airport, scheduled to open in 2009. It is the world’s largest express transportation company. Dr. Patricia W. Stewart, vice chancellor for advancement, will make opening remarks.

Ralph K. Shelton, president and CEO of Southeast Fuels, will present a luncheon report from the Business Committee on Higher Education, of which he is a member. The Business Committee on Higher Education, chaired by Ann Goodnight (SAS) and Bob Ingram (GlaxoSmithKline), is part of NC State’s Institute for Emerging Issues. The committee focuses on workforce development and other needs of North Carolina businesses. Shelton has won numerous awards as a champion of small and minority-owned businesses.

The summit also will feature representatives of Duke Energy, Syngenta, Tyco Electronics and the City of Greensboro’s Department of Housing and Community Development. In a forum moderated by Doug Copeland, publisher of The Business Journal, they will join UNCG faculty members to discuss collaborative projects in which professors and students developed and implemented innovative solutions to challenges faced by those organizations. Featured faculty members are Dr. Roy Stine, professor of geography, Dr. Nolo Martinez, interim director of the Center for New North Carolinians, Dr. Vidyaranya Gargeya, director of the Bryan MBA program, and Robert Charest, assistant professor of interior architecture.
