Professor Gargeya Appointed Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige Award

Professor Vidyaranya Gargeya was appointed to the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.  Established by Congress in 1987 to promote quality awareness, the Malcolm Baldrige Award has rapidly grown into the most prestigious recognition of excellence in quality management in the United States.  The Award is named after Malcolm Baldrige who served as the Secretary of Commerce from 1981 until his death in 1987 and is presented to U.S. organizations annually by the President.

As an examiner, Dr. Gargeya will be responsible for reviewing applications and evaluating organizations that have applied for the Award.  To be selected as an examiner, the individual is held to the highest standards of qualification and peer recognition.  Dr. Gargeya has considerable work experience as an engineer and manager in the petroleum industry as well as consulting for a number of Fortune 500 companies.  His teaching and research interests include global operations strategy, supply chain management, total quality management, and service operations management.

UNCG recognized Dr. Gargeya with the 2006 Alumni Teaching Excellence Award.  This is in addition to having been recognized twice by the Bryan School with teaching excellence awards and with the Wick Skinner Award for Teaching Innovation from the Production and Operations Society in 2003.
