Doing Business In: Germany

In March, twenty-seven MBA students spent their spring break in Germany as participants in a course titled Doing Business in Germany.  The students attended lectures on advertising, finance, marketing, and organizational theory at the University of Mannheim, Germany’s top business school, and in coordination with the Bryan School’s strong alumni base in Germany, the group visited several business organizations including an ad agency, BASF, the DAX in Frankfurt, Fuchs Petrolub - a global producer of lubricants, and MVV Energie - a public/private energy venture.

“The idea behind the course is to expose our students to an approach to business that they cannot receive from sitting in a classroom in the States,” said trip leader, Professor William Tullar.  For their week in Germany, students receive 1.5 hours of elective credit for their participation in the required lectures and tours.  If students elect to write a paper on a research topic related to the trip, they can receive a total of 3 credit hours for the course.

Business in Germany is part of a series of international travel courses offered to MBA students at the Bryan School.  Other recent trips have gone to Mexico, Morocco, Romania and Hungary.  In the fall, the MBA program is offering a course in London and Brussels and a second trip will be headed to Paris.
