The Bryan School of Business and Economics has hired two new faculty members who will join the Bryan MBA faculty in the fall. Dr. Riikka Sarala and Dr. Vas Taras bring accomplished teaching and publishing experience in international management, human resources management & organizational behavior to the Bryan MBA.
Dr. Riikka Sarala
Dr. Riikka Sarala is completing her PhD in international management from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration in Helsinki, Finland, where she is currently a lecturer on international mergers and acquisitions. During the 2006-07 academic year, Sarala was a visiting scholar at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. Her dissertation on the impact of cultural factors on the outcome of post-acquisition integration was the runner up for the Best PhD Paper Award at the Strategic Management Society conference in 2005.
Sarala holds a BS and an MS in economics from the Helsinki School of Economics and a master’s in international management from the Community of European Management Schools. She is fluent in English, German, French, Italian, Swedish and Finnish and speaks basic Arabic and Spanish.
Dr. Vas Taras
Dr. Vas Taras’ research interests include cross-cultural team management and development, diversity management, culture and acculturation studies, utility analysis of international HRM policy and programs, and quantitative research methods.
Taras currently teaches at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary where he is completing his PhD in Human Resources and Organizational Dynamics/Global Strategy last fall. His dissertation is entitled Work-Related Acculturation: Change in Individual Work-Related Cultural values Following Immigration and its Predictors.
Dr. Taras holds a bachelor’s in economics and management from Rivne State Technical University and a master’s of public affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas.
