Emily VanMeter: Summer Intern with Aflac

Second-year MBA student, Emily VanMeter, spent her summer in Columbus, Georgia where she was an intern at Aflac’s world headquarters. Emily participated in the day-to-day operations of the training function within the company which gave her an insider’s view of how a professional organization educates its employees and this knowledge will assist Emily in reaching her future goal of becoming a corporate trainer.

“Aflac is a wonderful organization. They truly know how to treat their employees. I enjoyed becoming a part of the Aflac family and working with others to insure that the Employee Learning Department continues to makes strides to meet customer needs.”

Emily also helped with the development and rollout of new products to the Aflac employee base and served as a department business analyst, which required her to develop several employee surveys and other forms of data collection.

“The experience gave me a good base for how the business world really functions. I have a better understanding of the importance of the training function in the overall success of an organization. I gained extensive knowledge about the development of training courses and metrics used to evaluate there success. I truly wouldn’t have had the experience if it wasn’t for the support and motivation of Graduate Career Services at the Bryan School. I believe that they were the key to obtaining my internship with Aflac.”
