On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between the three main phases of supply chain management – sourcing, production, and distribution
  • Discuss the strategic role of supply chain management in the attainment of organizational goals
  • Describe the important factors in supplier selection, maintenance and evaluation
  • Describe the importance of collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment systems in supply chain management

  • Explain the concepts of distribution management covering requirements planning, warehousing, location, packaging, and transportation
  • Identify and analyze performance measures for effective supply chain management

SCM 602: Supply Chain Design & Cost Issues
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Perform supplier cost analysis
  • Perform supplier price analysis and distinguish that from supplier cost analysis
  • Perform total cost of ownership analysis
  • Discuss the role of purchasing and target costing in supply chain management
  • Carry out foreign language translations and analyze the impact of stable/fluctuating exchange rates on supply chain cost analysis
  • Describe concepts such as cash-to-cash conversion and cash spin and their role in supply chain cost analysis
  • Analyze the cost implications of outsourcing and off shoring
  • Discuss the impact of lean supply chain techniques on supply chain cost analysis

SCM 606: Logistics in the Supply Chain
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand methods and tools used by today’s logistics and transportation managers
  • Apply these methodologies to the analysis of various logistical systems
  • Explore different processes & information technologies that deliver customer order fulfillment
  • Recommend specific solutions to improve customer order fulfillment

SCM 607: Distribution Center Design & Operations
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the changing role of Warehousing and the key influences impacting Warehousing as part of the total supply-chain process
  • Describe the specific functional elements involving cycle time, velocity, and turn-over, in order to achieve warehousing operational effectiveness in both cost and service
  • Develop the knowledge required for the design and layout of contemporary, customer-focused warehousing facilities as part of a total logistics network
  • Describe the value-added roles of Material Handling systems, IT, bar-coding, labeling, racking, and cross-docking, to achieve maximum effectiveness in customer service and cost
  • Explain the justification and rationale for decisions impacting Private vs. Public Warehousing, both operationally and financially
  • Describe, through Case Studies, the critical aspects of Safety, employee relations, Inventory, OSHA Regulations, Government audits, documentation and security

SCM 608: Contracts & Negotiations in Supply Chain Management
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify negotiation frameworks and planning
  • Discuss power in negotiation, negotiation tactics, and win-win negotiations
  • Discuss the execution of the competitive bidding process (including requests for quotations, requests for proposals, requests for inquiry, and statements of work)
  • Discuss the execution of complex alliances and developmental relationships
  • Use cost and price data in the negotiation plan
  • Describe the impact of cross-cultural issues in negotiation planning and execution
  • Identify different types of Contracts
  • Writing a Contract, Settling a Dispute, and Avoiding a Dispute

  • Discuss The Uniform Commercial Code and Patents and Intellectual Property

SCM 610: Transportation & Carrier Management
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the role of transportation in logistics and supply chain management
  • Distinguish between the different modes of transportation
  • Evaluate the factors that affect the selection of different modes of transportation
  • Assess the economics of transportation modes
  • Identify the different transportation regulations and their influence on mode selection
  • Discuss contemporary issues facing carrier management including profitability, industry consolidation, security, insurance availability, and labor shortages
  • Analyze challenges which are critical to carrier management in today’s business environment

SCM 612: E-Commerce for Managing Supply Chains
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss relevant issues regarding Electronic Commerce for Supply Chain Management
  • Investigate the roles and functions of various buyer/supplier interfaces
  • Provide recommendations for improving purchasing and business processes within the supply chain
  • Perform a cost/benefit analysis and a security analysis for international supply chains
  • Recommend specific information technology solutions for a variety of supply chain issues
  • Analyze various E-Commerce issues within the case environment and provide specific recommendations for improvement

SCM 620: Purchasing & Procurement
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss why purchasing is a critical activity in supply chain management
  • Perform a process analysis of typical purchasing process and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Analyze buyer-supplier relationships on their impact on the attainment of purchasing goals
  • Show how multi-criteria decision models can be applied to purchasing decisions and the interpretation of results
  • Describe e-procurement and identify the pros and cons
  • Distinguish between e-procurement for B2B and B2C
  • Analyze the difference between e-procurement and traditional purchasing systems
  • Assess the performance of purchasing and procurement functions within a firm
  • Discuss and evaluate current trends in purchasing and e-procurement such as reverse auctions, enterprise versus e-market models and consolidation of e-market verticals

SCM 630: Global Supply Operation
On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the state-of-the-art in managing global supply chains and operations
  • Analyze global operations and logistics problems on a functional and organization-wide basis
  • Use key criteria in making decisions related to site selection, global facilities configuration, and international sourcing networks’ development
  • Elaborate on the complexities associated with implementing changes in global operations and logistics
  • Identify and analyze risk factors in global supply operations
  • Discuss the ethical issues as they related to global environments

SCM 640: Special Topics in Supply Chain Management

  • Topics include the preparation of students for SCM certification through various APICS certification exams
  • Students may also use this course to carry out special investigative projects and research to address supply chain and logistics problems within their organizations
  • May be repeated for additional credit

SCM 641: Supply Chain, Logistics, and Transportation Management (SCLTM) Internship
In general, participation in an SCLTM internship should result in a learning experience which enhances your ability to perform effectively and successfully as a supply chain, logistics or transportation management professional. 

Specific learning objectives which should be accomplished include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Apply supply chain management skills learned in the classroom to real world situations
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of various SCLTM techniques and tools in organizational settings
  • Analyze and document the importance of interpersonal skills in a professional setting
  • Critique supply chain, logistics and transportation management processes within organizations and defend suggested improvements

SCM 642: Executive Mentorship in Supply Chain & Logistics Management
In general, participation in an SCLTM executive mentorship should result in a learning experience which enhances your ability to perform effectively and successfully as a supply chain, logistics or transportation management professional. 

Specific learning objectives which should be accomplished include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Discuss the impact of decisions within transportation, logistics and supply chain management
  • Perform a SWOT analysis for a particular transportation/logistics firm
  • Evaluate the factors that affect the efficiency and/or effectiveness of a logistical decision
  • Interact with a supply chain management executive and detail his/her decision-making process
  • Research a particular topic of joint interest and provide recommendations
  • Discuss and analyze contemporary issues facing a logistics firm including profitability, industry consolidation, information technology, security, competitive pressure, and labor shortages
  • Analyze critical supply chain challenges in today’s business environment
