UNCG Bryan School Professor Elected to Online Hall of Fame

GREENSBORO – Dr. Kevin Lowe, a professor of business administration at the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a recipient of the 2006-07 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, will be inducted into the Business Strategy Game (BSG)-Online Hall of Fame as a Master Professor.

Lowe is one of only 24 out of 2,900 online instructors to receive the honor. He achieved Master Professor status by having one or more Grand Champion teams in the Best-Strategy Invitation for the May 2008 competition.

The Business Strategy Game is a simulated online exercise where class members are divided into teams and assigned the task of running an athletic footwear company in head-to-head competition against companies managed by other class members. Company operations parallel those of actual athletic footwear companies. Participants are challenged to craft and execute a competitive corporate strategy resulting in everything from a respected brand image to producing a positive financial performance.

Up to 3,000 teams from hundreds of colleges and universities compete three times a year. Each week, the best-performing companies are named to the Global Top 100 list based on overall score, earnings per share, return on average equity and stock price.

Alligator Activewear, the UNCG team consisting of MBA students Jack Bladel, Paul Flinchum, Manjay Shetty and Rob Vreeland, earned a Global Top 100 ranking for several weeks and ended the semester’s game in the top 100 in all four categories.

“The effort these students gave was amazing,” Lowe said. “No student left the class with any doubt about why this team outperformed the others: good old-fashioned hard work and rigorous analysis.”

The Bryan School is the largest of UNCG’s six professional schools with 450 graduate students and 2,200 undergraduates. It is accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is among the top 10 percent of business schools nationwide that have earned accreditation at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both business and accounting.
