PhD Student to Participate in International Doctoral Consortium

Sandy VannoySandy Vannoy, a doctoral student in UNCG’s Bryan School of Business and Economics, has been invited to attend the prestigious 2009 International Conference on Information Systems Doctoral Consortium next month in Phoenix.

An invitation to the conference is a high honor. Only one student per university may be entered for consideration, and the selection process among universities is highly competitive, with more than 80 applications submitted for only 40 available spots. Selections are made based on the quality and novelty of a student’s dissertation research and proposal.

Vannoy, a fourth-year doctoral student in information systems, was selected for her research on the connection between a firm’s investment in information systems and the competitive advantage achieved through such an investment. A better understanding of the relationship between information systems and competitive strategy will allow organizations to identify and invest in information systems that allow them to compete more effectively in a highly competitive market.

Vannoy, a candidate to earn the PhD degree in May 2010, has accepted a faculty position at Appalachian State University.
