2007 Staff Excellence Award Recipient: Angela Scott
The Dean's speech at Award Ceremony presentation, April 27, 2007: Today, I am pleased to present
the 2007 Bryan School Staff Excellence Award.
As you may know, the Bryan School Diversity Commission recommended the establishment of this award to
recognize a current Bryan School administrative EPA or SPA employee who:
- Demonstrates excellence in leadership;
- Possesses outstanding dedication to duty and exhibits high professional standards; and who
- Excels in their position and furthers the mission of the Bryan School and UNCG.
This year, the selection committee received nominations for eight candidates, all of whom exemplify
the award’s criteria. Selecting this year’s recipient from among these outstanding
candidates was difficult.
This year’s recipient received nominations from faculty, staff, and students within the Bryan
School and across the UNCG community. Many cited the recipient’s leadership and service
record, including:
- Chair of the Elections Committee for the Staff Senate in 2006-07;
- Member of UNCG Staff Council from 2002-06;
- Chair of the UNCG Staff Council in 2005-06;
- Co-chair of the Students First Campaign for the Bryan School in 2005-06;
- Membership in Leadership Greensboro; and serving as a
- Guilford county Notary Public from 2002 to the present.
Others highlighted her dedication to duty, noting:
- “With the declining health of her husband,” she “has been confronted
with extraordinary personal challenges that would test the strength and endurance of the
strongest person”; and yet,
- “She possesses the rare gift of looking at the positive and making the best of any
situation”, and “encourages and fosters such spirit in the rest of us” with
a “smile [that] never wavers, [and is] most times contagious.”
The sentiments everyone expressed can be concluded as this:
- “Her professional attitude, spirit of giving, and proactive behavior …
reflects positively not only on [her] department, but on UNCG as well.”
Please join me in congratulating Angela Scott, the recipient of the 2007 Bryan School Staff
Excellence Award.
