Divya Sreekumar was on a team of MBA students that won second place in the 17th Annual Simon Case Competition held April 23-24 at the University of Rochester. The competition was hosted by the Simon School of Business and sponsored by the Xerox Corporation.
Students from 17 of the top MBA programs from around the country were integrated into mixed teams of 4 to 5 students and assigned a real challenge that the Xerox Corporation is currently facing. For this year's case, Xerox was dealing with the re-branding of a company they had acquired in order to enter the health care industry.
"I always used to grumble about professors putting us in groups but on April 24th the reality of teamwork sunk in. Team members did not know one another and we were immediately thrown into the deep end of the pool. The case was intense and several challenges came up during the competition, but the primary take-away from the event was that I was able to use my MBA knowledge and creativity to analyze a real business case in 5 hours with complete strangers and I learned that a simple concept such as "Branding" can be analyzed in multiple ways. It was an experience of a life time."
Divya and her teammates split a $3,000 prize for their performance in the competition.
Divya graduates from the Bryan Day MBA program in May. She earned her Bachelor of Economics from Ethiraj College for Women in Chennai, India and holds a Master's in Economic Analysis from the University of Nottingham in the UK. For the past year she has interned in marketing for Cook Medical in Winston-Salem.
