CLASS SCHEDULE SEARCH

  1. From the UNCG homepage, select UNCGenie
  2. Select “Class Schedule”
  3. Verify that the term is correct. If not, use the pull-down menu to change to the appropriate term.
  4. You have two ways to search for classes:

a. “Subject” – The discipline. (i.e. Math, Communication Studies, English etc.) AND/OR
b. “Course Category” – This qualifier looks for specific categories (i.e. GLT, GL, WI, SI)

Note: You can manipulate this data in several ways. For instance, if you were looking for a History Course that also met a writing intensive requirement then you could select the “subject” as History and then the “course category” as WI. “Course Category” is useful when you know that you want to meet a general education requirement and you want to see course offerings across disciplines.

5. After selecting either “Subject” or “Course Category” then select “Course Search”. For the purpose of this information, select Communication Studies.

6. Reading the data.

a. CRN Column: This is a unique identifier used specifically for that course and section number. This will be the number you will use to register for the class.

b. Notes: Hyperlinked notes that provide you additional information pertaining to the course/section. These are very important and you should check them to make sure you are aware of any additional instructions.

c. Course: The course abbreviation, course number and section number. (i.e. CST 105-01)

d. Title: Course title

e. SH: Semester Hours

f. Course Type: Hyperlink notes the type of course. You need to be aware of this section because UNCG offers WEB based courses, studios, lectures, labs etc.

g. Instructor: Self-Explanatory

h. Meeting Dates: Self-Explanatory. Be aware that UNCG does offer half term courses. These courses require students to complete the entire semesters work within a half semester schedule.

i. Days: Monday (M), Tuesday (T), Wednesday (W), Thursday (R), Friday (F)

j. Time: 24 hour clock. Basically, PM times start at 1300 (1 pm) and continue until 2400. (i.e. 1pm= 1300, 2pm=1400, 3pm=1500, 4pm=1600, 5pm=1700.)

k. Location: Abbreviated building and room number. You can find a list of the abbreviated building names at http://www.uncg.edu/reg/Schedule/BuildingAbbrev.html

l. Categories: Hyperlinked notes that identify what requirements are met. (i.e. GRD – General Education Reasoning and Discourse, SI-Speaking Intensive, WI-Writing Intensive)

m. Seats: Seats available. If you see a negative then it means that a student has sought out the professor in the course and asked permission for them to over enroll the course. This is a manual process and you must get a signature from the professor and then take the “Add/Drop” for to the University Registrars Office. You can pick-up these forms in our office or at the University Registrars Office.

n. Limit: Size of the course

o. Enroll: Total number of students who have signed-up for this course.

p. Campus: M= Main, D=Distance

Note: You will notice that CST 105-09 is meeting the GRD, SI and WI. Sections 1-8 do not meet the WI component. Basically, the teaching method in this course will meet the requirement as established by the Writing Intensive Committee. You should watch these because you can be efficient and meet multiple requirements with one course.
