Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance

Initial claims for unemployment insurance are a leading indicator of the unemployment rate. Claims in the Triad declined 4.0% in March and have dropped 14.2% over the past 12 months. In March, there were 5,196 new unemployment claims, or 0.9% of those employed in the Triad. Nationally, claims were down 0.3% in March and are down 2.7% over the past 12 months.
