Formerly an electrical engineer on the Space Shuttle Main Engine Program, physics teacher, and photojournalist, Brett Ingram has been making films since 1990. He is the director of two award-winning documentary features, Monster Road (2004) and Rocaterrania (2009), as well as numerous short documentaries and animations.
His work has screened on Sundance Channel and PBS, and at hundreds of film festivals including Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, IFP Los Angeles Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, Independent Film Festival of Boston, Vancouver International Film Festival, Buenos Aires International Film Festival, Annecy International Festival of Animation, Krakow Film Festival, New Zealand International Film Festival, and Melbourne International Film Festival.
Ingram has directed documentary programs for Animal Planet and National Geographic Channel, and has recorded location sound for ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, ESPN, MSNBC, MTV, A&E, HBO, Showtime, National Geographic Explorer, Discovery Channel, History Channel, The Learning Channel, Channel 4 (U.K.) and the BBC, among many other clients.
His primary teaching interests include cinematography, sound design, narrative and documentary filmmaking, and serves as one of the core faculty for the MFA Program in Film and Video Production. He has also taught filmmaking at Wake Forest University and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
Ingram is a Guggenheim Fellow (2007) and the recipient of two fellowships from the North Carolina Arts Council (1996, 2002).
In his spare time, he enjoys being a dad and working in his Japanese inspired garden.
