First created in the early 1980s and reconstituted in 2001, the Broadcasting and Cinema Advisory Committee acts as an interface among industry, commerce, government, and the community at large and the Broadcasting and Cinema Department. The Committee assists the Department by keeping under review the Departmental mission, curricular goals, and resources in relation to community need and market demands and helps assess the effectiveness of the Department by annually reviewing Departmental initiatives and achievements. (For the full Committee guidelines and administrative structure, please see pages 15-16 the BCN Instrument of Governance.)

In addition, the Committee has the final vote on the two major professional awards presented annually by the Department: the North Carolina Filmmaker of the Year award, presented each year at the Carolina Film and Video Festival, and the North Carolina Broadcaster of the Year award, presented each year at the Department’s graduation ceremony.
