The Department of Biology at UNCG is committed to providing excellent and comprehensive instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the Department’s excellence in education is complemented by highly active research programs in environmental and behavioral ecology, evolution, population biology, and cell and developmental biology. New Memorial Scholarship Available to Undergraduates from International Society of Southern Aboriculture
The Southern Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is announcing the Memorial Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded each year to students who are majoring in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry, Horticulture or a related field. Sophomores and juniors who are U.S. citizens and who attend school and reside in the southern chaper region are eligble to apply. Research Experience for Undergraduates Program in Estuarine and Coastal Marine Sciences
The National Science Foundation funded REU program will take place at the Duke Marine Lab located on Pivers Island in coastal Carteret County of North Carolina. Eight students will participate in a 10-week semi-independent research program with faculty mentors in the following general areas: sensory physiology, ecology, and behavior, environmental toxicology, molecular biology and genetics, coastal and estuarine processes. Each student will work with a faculty mentor, develop a research project, present progress and final oral reports and prepare a final written paper. Students will receive housing and meals at the Duke Marine Lab in addition to a stipend and travel allowance. The application deadline is February 15, 2012. Ellen Lamb recognized by Lloyd International Honors College
UNCG Biology Faculty member, Ellen Lamb, was recognized as a Faculty Fellow by the Lloyd International Honors College for her continued excellence and record of teaching honor's courses in Biology. Ellen will be honored along with the other Faculty Fellows by a reception on Tuesday, March 13th from 4:15 - 5:15 PM in the pre-fuction lobby outside of the EUC Auditorium. Congratulations Ellen! |
