Policy for the Use of BIO 111L and 112L Grades from a Previous Semester
A student retaking BIO 111 or BIO 112 may use their laboratory grade from a previous semester or summer session under the following conditions:
- The grade from a previous semester or summer session must be an A (90 points or better out of 100). This must be verified by the Principles of Biology laboratory coordinator.
- The grade must have been earned within twelve months of the beginning of the semester or summer session in which the grade is to be used.
- The request to reuse a lab grade must be submitted using a Principles of Biology Laboratory Exemption Form. These forms are available in the Biology Department office in room 312 Eberhart. Completed laboratory exemption forms must be delivered in person to the Principles of Biology laboratory coordinator (Mrs. Margaret Powell- Sullivan 323) by the end of the first week of the semester in which the grade is to be used (or by the end of the second day of the summer session). Requests by e-mail or telephone will not be considered.
The names of students approved to reuse an old laboratory grade will be dropped from the laboratory course rosters, but will remain enrolled in their lecture.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT LAB SCHEDULES: The
policy concerning lab meetings during adverse weather conditions is as follows:
- If the University is declared to be CLOSED and/or CLASSES CANCELED
by the Chancellor's office, then labs will obviously not meet on the affected
days. Those lab exercises will be made up in a manner to be determined by
the Lab Coordinator and Director of Introductory Biology. An announcement
about making up the affected lab meetings will be posted HERE on this web
page (You may also receive information through e-mail from your instructors,
so make sure your instructor has an up-to-date e-mail address for you. Your
lab instructor will most likely use Blackboard to send the class an e-mail
message).
- If the University is opened on a DELAY by the Chancellor's office,
then labs will begin at the time determined by the Chancellor and end at
the normal time. For example, if the Chancellor declares that the University
will open at 10:00 AM, and your lab meeting normally runs from 9:00 AM -
11:50 AM, then your lab meeting on the affected day will begin at 10:00
AM and run through 11:50 AM. If you miss lab, you will be counted absent
and will have to make up the lab period.
- If the University is CLOSED EARLY by the Chancellor's office,
then labs will begin at the normal time and end at the time determined
by the Chancellor. For example, if the Chancellor declares that the University
will close at 5:00 PM, and your lab meeting normally runs from 3:30 PM -
6:20 PM, then your lab meeting on the affected day will begin at 3:30 PM
and run through 5:00 PM.
- If the University is OPEN ON A NORMAL SCHEDULE, then labs will
meet as normal. If you miss lab, you will be counted absent and will have
to make up the lab period.
