The Biology Department Program Endowment was established in 1998 by Robert and Florence Gatten for the purpose of supporting the programs and activities of the Department.
Dr. Robert Gatten was a faculty member in the Department of Biology at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1978 until his retirement in 2006. He served as Head of the Department from 1988-1997, and then served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1997-2006. Dr. Gatten earned his B.S. and M.A. degrees from the College of William and Mary, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Dr. Gatten's wife, Florence, is an active community leader and served as a Council Member for the City of Greensboro from 2001-2007. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and has done graduate work at Oxford University in England.
