Jennifer Braswell Alford, Geography Ph.D. Candidate

Jennifer Braswell Alford is a doctoral student in Geography at UNCG. Originally from Wilmington, NC, she received her B.A. from NCSU in International Politics and an M.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Environmental Policy from UNCG. During her masters program, Jennifer was a teaching assistant, tutor and supplemental instructor for Conservation Biology, which helped develop a passion for teaching students about protecting air, water, and wildlife habitats. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys rivers and the ocean, hiking and traveling with her husband, Richie, and dogs Guinness and Bella, practicing yoga and dance and pulling for the Wolfpack and Football Club Barcelona. She was a GK-12 Fellow during the 2011-2012 academic year, working with 3rd graders at Montlieu Elementary. |
Research InterestsJennifer's primary research area is environmental geography, where she studies the ways that human activities affect ecosystems. Jennifer's dissertation research is on relationships between land-use policies and water quality within the Cape Fear River Basin, NC. To explore these relationships, she will develop a research model that incorporates land-use policy analysis and satellite remote sensing. Her goal is to assist planners, decision-makers, and researchers in understanding how land-use policies affect water quality standards. |
