Brian Fannon, Geography Ph.D. Candidate

About

Brian Fannon

Brian Fannon holds a BS in Biology from Wake Forest University, a Masters in Geography from Appalachian State University, and is currently a doctoral student in Geography at UNCG. He spent several years as a marine fisheries biologist in the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean, on board commercial fishing vessels, collecting data for fisheries management. During this time, Brian also worked from remote camps in the Alaskan bush while gathering field data on Stellar sea lions and sea otters. While still involved in fisheries work, he participated in Shad restoration projects in the Chesapeake Bay. Denali National Park in Alaska was another home for two years, managing visitor transportation, tours, and interpretive programs about the Park's natural and cultural history. This work led to an interest in combining his biology work with geography, and eventually to his current research on animal effects on the landscape, and how these, in turn, affect humans.

His interests include Living History, fly-fishing, boating, and camping.

Research Interests

He also studies the impact of increasing human population on public access to and conservation of National Parks and Wilderness Areas.
