The Department of Biology at UNCG is committed to providing excellent and comprehensive instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the Department’s excellence in education is complemented by highly active research programs in environmental and behavioral ecology, evolution, population biology, and cell and developmental biology. On Thursday, May 3rd 2012 the UNCG Biology Class of 2012 graduated in Aycock Auditorium on the campus of UNCG. There were 39 undergraduate students and 2 graduate students. Cristina D'Agostino, UNCG Biology Undergraduate, selected as Noyce Scholar
Cristina E. D'Agostino was selected as a Noyce Scholar participant in the Summer 2012 "Best Practices Inquiry-Based Science Education" workshop, to be held at the University of Crete, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. She will spend 10 days with fellow scholars, learning hands-on, inquiry-based science activities that make science learning a compelling and exciting experience. Cristina is a UNCG-Biology Major with a minor in Chemistry, and is pursuing Science Teaching Licensure in Secondary Schools. She expects to graduate in 2014.

Dr. Bob Stavn, UNCG Biology Professor, is First Receipient of New Grant
UNCG Biology Professor, Dr. Bob Stavn was the first recipient of the new Open Access Publishing Support Fund created and sponsored by the University Libraries and the Office of Research and Economic Development here at UNCG. The grant was issued in support of his earlier publication: "Mass-specific scattering cross sections of suspended sediments and aggregates: theoretical limits and applications." Congratulations Dr. Stavn! |
