2012 Eberhart Award Winners

Congratulations to Zoe Rebecca Goldstone, Emily Cecilia Mason, and Ashley Shane Williams for being the recipients of this year's Eberhart Awards. This year's award winners received a cash honorarium and the book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

UNCG Biology 2012 Commencement Ceremony & Reception Photos

On Thursday, May 3rd 2012 the UNCG Biology Class of 2012 graduated in Aycock Auditorium on the campus of UNCG. There were 39 undergraduate students and 2 graduate students. The ceremony was immediately followed by a reception in the lobby of the Sullivan Science Building. UNCG Biology Service Pin Awards

The UNCG Biology department would like to congratulate the multiple Faculty and Staff members that received service pins at the College of Arts & Sciences End of Year Celebration for a combined service total of 160 years! Congratulations to Dr. Bob Stavn, Dr. Bruce Kirchoff, Dr. Esther Leise, Ann Somers, Joseph Bundy, Dr. Mark Hens, Dr. Paul Steimle, Laura Fondario, Dr. Mary Beth Lovin, and Heather Rushforth! Cristina D'Agostino, UNCG Biology Undergraduate, selected as Noyce Scholar

Cristina E. D'Agostino was selected as a Noyce Scholar participant in the Summer 2012 "Best Practices Inquiry-Based Science Education" workshop, to be held at the University of Crete, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. She will spend 10 days with fellow scholars, learning hands-on, inquiry-based science activities that make science learning a compelling and exciting experience. Cristina is a UNCG-Biology Major with a minor in Chemistry, and is pursuing Science Teaching Licensure in Secondary Schools. She expects to graduate in 2014.

Dr. Bob Stavn, UNCG Biology Professor, is First Receipient of New Grant

UNCG Biology Professor, Dr. Bob Stavn was the first recipient of the new Open Access Publishing Support Fund created and sponsored by the University Libraries and the Office of Research and Economic Development here at UNCG. The grant was issued in support of his earlier publication: "MassĀ­-specific scattering cross sections of suspended sediments and aggregates: theoretical limits and applications." Congratulations Dr. Stavn!
